Review

Plot

Gosh, I just did not like this book! There was nothing to really root for because the main problem/conflict was already solved in the middle of the book----[SPOILER] they met up every weekend to overcome this long-distance relationship. It also felt a little repetitive where he met her, hit it off, say they miss each other, and then he flew back, and then everything would happen again but with her flying to LA instead. [SPOILER] It felt like nothing was happening in the book. Very stale and very boring.

Characters

Alexa. She works for the city’s major or something like that but her inner dialogue was so annoying. I didn’t click with her character and her sob story with her sister had potential but was not well written in my opinion. She had her moments, I think, but Alexa was a forgettable character. Nothing about her personality really stuck out--she wasn't a badass or awkward person, she was just...vanilla. I had to look at the book to figure out who

her name was because of how bad of an impression the book gave me.

Drew was...also boring. Flat. He was made to be this character who did not want to have a relationship or was not “relationship material” but the way he was portrayed in the book, made it seem like he was this golden retriever which was extremely contrasting to what he was supposed to be. He did not have the dimension of what was needed in the book and I felt very annoyed by him for consistently playing the card of “she’s not my girlfriend!” It was honestly a little pathetic.

Together, ok they were sometimes cute. But there was no spark. I did not feel any chemistry between them. They were the most boring couple I read about because there was no tension!! It was all cutesy and lovey-dovey like no. I need some kind of cold-heartedness here!

Final Thoughts, Parting Words

It’s a no for me. I’m sorry! I would not recommend this book to anyone. It was probably the worst contemporary romance book I read so far. I didn’t even finish the whole book; I had about 60 pages left and couldn’t get through it so I read the ending and that was it (it’s not like the ending was surprising anyways). I think part of the reason was that I like angst and drama and tension between the two characters. With Alexa and Drew, it was all sunshine and rainbows, and nothing is going to stand in the way!! It. Was. Boring. But if anything, this book made me realize I like grumpy x sunshine books and not all lovey-dovey hearts and kisses books. Blech. Too gushy.
